The
Laurel Farmers' Market began in 1996 when the Laurel Board of
Trade recognized the need for a fresh vegetables and fruit concession.
The market was first set up in Riverfront Park along the Patuxent
River at the north end of Avondale Street and resided there for
four years.
The
Market Coordinator, Mr. Francis Gosman along with the Officers
and Directors decided the market would fair better with more
visibility and arrangements were made to move it to it current
location at the intersection of Main Street and Avondale Street.
The Board purchased a 40 x 40 blue and white tent,
which is put up every year to protect the shoppers and farmers
every Thursday from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.. The
tent also brings great visibility and attracts attention throughout
the market season. |
